Widely known as # 20, Luis Gonzalez played Major League Baseball for 19 seasons. Famously nicknamed, “Gonzo”, Luis remains one of the most popular players in Arizona Diamondbacks history, as an all-time leader in nearly every offensive category after an eight-year stint with the team. His legend grew due to his unforgettable game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees.
Fast forward to today, Gonzalez serves as Special Advisor to the President and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gonzo is taking his skills from the baseball field to the pickleball court this week, competing with a black carbon VELOZ Quadra 16MM, as he stars in a Pro Am exhibition by PBX Pickleball. “Pickleball is a fun way to stay in shape and compete against people from all walks of life. My daughter introduced me to pickleball, and I can’t wait to see how this journey evolves,” Gonzalez said.
“Gonzo represents the talents, spirit and heart of a champion. It’s an honor to have Luis Gonzalez bring his world-class energy to our team”, said VELOZ founder Mitch Junkins. Speaking of champions, the 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks are still battling it out in the MLB post-season. Up next? The National League Championship Series for a World Series berth. Let’s go Gonzalez and the Arizona Diamondbacks!
